Should all patients with type 2 diabetes be offered a statin medication? No. But patients with type 2 diabetes aged greater-than or equal to 40 years may benefit from statin therapy if initial low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentration is greater-than or equal to 100 mg/dL.
