dc.description.abstractPrior epidural catheters have a much greater risk of damage to patients' lumbar area of spine since the catheters are either threaded directly into the cervical and thoracic spaces at the corresponding levels with no flexibility or guidance. The steerable epidural catheter invention discloses a catheter design that allows threading into the epidural space via the lumbar levels up to the thoracic and cervical levels and then can direct therapeutic intervention into a more precise space safer and more reliably than current methods. This invention also targets specific areas within the spinal area for delivery of interventional pain therapeutics and also prevents any perforations in the walls of the epidural space. Potential Areas of Applications: Health care marketing, specifically involving back surgeries, Other types of surgeries, particularly, involving epidural injections.
