Low-level laser therapy significantly shortens the painful period of stomatitis associated with hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD). (SOR: B, based on an RCT.) Acyclovir has been noted to shorten time to involution of lesions, defervescence, and symptom relief in adults and children. (SOR: C, based on a case series.) Conservative management with a bland nonirritating diet, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen, or analgesic mouth rinses are also options. (SOR: C, based on a clinical guideline.)
