Is any treatment effective for preventing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a traumatic event?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
The use of multiple-session or single-session psychological interventions targeted at every person who experiences a traumatic event has not been proven effective for preventing PTSD. (SOR: A, based on metaanalyses.) However, there is evidence that immediate debriefing (within 10 hours of an event) may be more effective than delayed debriefing. (SOR: C, based on 1 small trial.) It is not known if pharmacotherapy is effective for preventing PTSD. (SOR: C, based on heterogeneous, low-quality trials.)
