Is prophylactic warfarin effective for DVT prevention in nonsurgical patients?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
Prophylactic low-dose warfarin (with an international normalized ratio [INR] target 1.3-2) appears effective only in preventing asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in cancer patients with central indwelling catheters (SOR: B, secondary outcome measures from RCTs). Its use is not generally recommended in cancer patients with no additional risk factors or as prophylaxis for long distance travel (SOR: A, evidence-based guideline).
