Abstract: Consensus guidelines recommend against antidepressant monotherapy for bipolar I disorder. Rather, a mood stabilizer with good antidepressant effects should be considered. In addition, several trials of common antidepressants combined with a mood stabilizer have not shown any benefit over an adequately dosed mood stabilizer alone.
