The incidence of allergic reactions to topical antibiotics can range from rare to >13% depending on the individual antibiotic, with neomycin and bacitracin most likely to cause an allergic reaction. Reactions are similar regardless of ethnicity. Older patients are at higher risk of allergic reactions (SOR: B, multiple cohort studies).
