Does lower extremity DVT resolve radiologically in anticoagulated patients and how does this assist with therapy?

Residual venous thrombus on ultrasound (US) may identify a subset of patients at higher risk of recurrent deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Varying duration of anticoagulation on the basis of US resolution may lower the DVT recurrence rate, compared with a predetermined duration of anticoagulation strategy (SOR: B, heterogeneous RCTs).
