Is insulin glargine or detemir better for lowering HbA1c in patients with type 2 diabetes?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
For patients with type 2 diabetes, insulin glargine (Lantus) and detemir (Levemir) are equally effective in lowering glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Both insulins have similar risk of hypoglycemia. Glargine results in more weight gain than detemir (SOR: A, RCTs). Glargine use is also associated with increased risks of breast and prostate cancer (SOR: C, fixed-cohort analysis).
