Relational Database Management Systems, Database Design, and GIS
Abstract
This presentation offers an overview of several different ways to organize and present GIS databases. It begins with a comparison of hybrid models and spatial database servers. That is followed by advantages and disadvantages of relational databases. The bulk of the presentation offers design tips, including a list of elements of and influences on good database design. It addresses design processes, structural concerns, conceptual models, and types of relationships, as well as other elements.
