How effective and safe are IVC filters in preventing PE in patients with a DVT?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
Permanent inferior vena cava (IVC) filters, used with anticoagulation, decrease the risk of pulmonary embolism (PE) while increasing the risk of recurrent deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Expert guidelines extrapolate from this evidence to recommend using a retrievable IVC to prevent PE in patients with DVT and contraindications to or failure of anticoagulant therapy.
