How soon after diagnosing a patient with new-onset congestive heart failure should you start beta-blocker therapy?

A patient with newly diagnosed systolic heart failure (HF) should be started on a beta-blocker in the hospital, once volume status is optimized. At a minimum, this will result in a greater probability that beta-blocker therapy will used over the next few months.
