Abstract
Indirect evidence and expert opinion indicate that a careful history and thorough
physical examination usually suggest the
underlying cause of alopecia. Ancillary
laboratory evaluation and scalp biopsy
are sometimes necessary to make or confirm the diagnosis (strength of recommendation: C, expert opinion).
