It is peculiar fact, so far as the literature of the color changes in Anolis Carolinexsis is conerned, that no one has as yet investigated the effects of background on theses changes, -- it is a further peculiarity, the I must speak with some reserve on this matter, that popular opinion as to the adaptability of Chameleen Vularis to tis surroundings, has been persistently contradicted by scientific investigators; and finally, it would have been nothing short of miraculous if in animals possessing the faculty of changing the color of their skins and having eyes as well, natural seclection had not made for correlation between the visual functions and the cutaneous functins, in short, for adaptability.eng
