Are postmenopausal women taking calcium supplementation at an increased risk of myocardial infarction? Evidence-Based Answer: Calcium supplementation (with or without concurrent vitamin D supplementation) may increase the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) in healthy postmenopausal women, but the evidence is controversial because studies often included men and cardiovascular outcomes were not primary objectives of the studies (SOR: B, inconsistent systematic review and cohort studies).
