What is the effect of light exposure on circadian rhythms and sleep? Evidence-Based Answer: Timed light exposure (LE) produces circadian rhythm phase delays in a dose-dependent fashion (SOR: B, crossover trial). Appropriately timed LE improves alertness and sleep time in shift workers (SOR: A, consistent RCTs). White and blue light produce equivalent shifts in circadian rhythm timing (CRT) (SOR: B, single RCT).
