Does cryotherapy prevent muscle soreness after vigorous exercise? Evidence-Based Answer: One-time cryotherapy treatment after exercise significantly reduces subjective pain at 1 to 3 days’ follow-up, but does not improve functional performance of the athlete. Repeat treatments do not provide any additional relief (SOR: B, systematic review of small RCTs).
