When can sunscreen safely be used on infants? Evidence-Based Answer: Currently no evidence is available regarding when it is safe to use sunscreen on infants. Direct sunlight avoidance is recommended in infants younger than 6 months. However, when sun exposure cannot be prevented with clothing, hats, or shade, sunscreen may be used on small areas of skin on the face and backs of hands (SOR: C, expert opinion).
