Polyols made from vegetable oil and their applications
Abstract
In the course of research, soybean oil was polymerized to form bodied soybean oil (BSBO) also termed heat polymerized soybean oil which was used to derive the epoxy bodied soybean oil-hydroxyl value # 193, BSBO/aceto-hydroxyl value # 72, BSBO/allyl alcohol, SBO/acetol-hydroxyl value # 78, SBO/allyl alcohol polyols. These polyols have reasonable properties in terms of the hydroxyl content, acid value and are produced through inexpensive means. The applications of the above synthesized materials have been studied in part in making of foams, ion exchange materials and resins/composites etc.
