How often should cholesterol screening be done in low-risk adults? Evidence-Based Answer: The answer is uncertain. Based on panel guidelines and expert opinion, a reasonable option would be every 5 years for low-risk patients. Shorter intervals can be considered for people who have lipid levels close to those warranting therapy, and longer intervals for those not at increased risk who have had repeatedly normal lipid levels (SOR: C, expert opinion).
