What is the prognostic significance of asymptomatic left bundle branch block (LBBB)? Evidence-Based Answer: In patients without congestive heart failure (CHF), LBBB is not associated with increased all-cause mortality when followed for 10 to 40 years (SOR: B, cohort studies). However, asymptomatic LBBB may be a risk factor for later diagnosis of CHF and CHF-specific mortality (SOR: B, retrospective and prospective cohort study). LBBB with left axis deviation (LAD) appears to carry a greater risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes than LBBB without LAD (SOR: B, retrospective cohort study).
