Do antibiotics interfere with the efficacy of oral contraceptives?
Abstract
Do antibiotics interfere with the efficacy
of oral contraceptives?
Evidence-Based Answer: In patients taking oral contraceptive pills (OCPs),
concomitant use of most antibiotics has not been
associated with contraceptive failure (SOR: B, casecrossover study). Rifampin, however, may be associated
with contraceptive failure (SOR: C, case report and
opinion guideline).
