While engaging in the exploration of the subject matter of perfection in an ideal mate, my project strives to align the physical act of painting with said search of faultlessness. My preoccupation with this search has led me to the contemporary tool of the dating world, online dating. Source materials for this project included, from the very beginning, various social media sites, as well as personal and impersonal experiences with online dating sites. This distorted and obsessive sense of reality fueled my drive to recreate images of the individuals collected in this pursuit. Through the repetition of making I am materializing and categorizing the compendium of personal memories associated with my ascension into womanhood. Oil paint is used for a reference for skin. The application of thickly applied cadmium red medium paint is used as a self--assigned signifier of availability of the individuals involved in the pursuit. The urgency to create is also emulated throughout the physical marks within my paintings. Repetitive hand gestures with the application of the paint reference the obsessive and repetitive drive to not only click through profiles in search of the mate but also the incessant levels of drive and passion to make paintings.eng
