Thorium(IV), uranium(IV) and uranium(VI) salicylaldiminate complexes : synthesis, structure and reactivity
Abstract
[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] The following report is split into two sections, both utilizing salicylaldiminate ligands. In the first portion, tetravalent uranium is reacted with salicylaldiminate ligands in either 1:2 or 1:3 ratios to yield: [(NC5H4)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O)]2UI2, 2.4, [(NC9H6)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O)]2UI2, 2.5, [(CH3SC6H4)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O]2UI2, 2.6, and [(NC5H4)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O)]3UI, 2.7. Tetravalent thorium is treated in the same manner as uranium and yields: [(NC5H4)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O)]2ThCl2, 2.8, and [(NC9H6)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O)]2ThCl2, 2.9. Complex 2.5 and 2.9 are used to metathesis coordinated halides to study the reactivity of these molecules. In the second half of this report, is the study of uranium complexes, all with the same coordinating salicylaldiminate ligand, in differing mole ratios. Reaction of UI4(dioxane)2 with two, four, and six equivalents of K[OC6H4C(H)=NC6H3iPr2] yields [iPr2H3C6N=C(H)C6H4O-K2]2UI2, 3.2, [iPr2H3C6N=C(H)C6H4O-?1]2[iPr2H3C6N=C(H)C6H4O- K1]2U(THF), 3.3, and {[iPr2H3C6N=C(H)C6H4O-K2]6U}2-, 3.4. These three complexes, as well as the complexes in the first half of the report, have been studied by X-ray crystallographic analysis.--From public.pdf
