More support for cervical cancer screening with HPV testing

This study provides compelling evidence that HPV-based cervical cancer screening is more effective than cytology alone, and can be safely performed every 5 years. However, most participants in the intervention group received co-testing, not HPV testing alone. Current guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and the US Preventive Services Task Force recommending co-testing every 5 years for women older than 30.
