What are the best ways to diagnose diverticulitis? Evidence-Based Answer: Ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are all reasonable imaging studies for diagnosing diverticulitis. CT can identify more alternative diseases than US. The utility of MRI is limited by the relatively long time needed for this modality and contraindication in patients with metal foreign bodies and pacemakers (SOR: B, meta-analysis of case series and individual case series).
