Abstract
What was long known as computer-assisted reporting or "CAR" has finally become a mainstream practice at news organizations across the U.S. and around the globe. Advents in technology, open-source tools and the increasing importance of online presentation have pushed data journalism into new places. Case studies of stories and journalists at Honolulu Civil Beat, Thompson Reuters, La Nacion, Hoy and Oregon Public Broadcasting highlight the way CAR techniques are being used today.
