Evidence Based Answer: For patients with medication overuse headaches, abrupt withdrawal of the suspected offending agent with rescue medications or using a preventive medication (angiotensin II blockers, beta-blockers, antiepileptic drugs, or tricyclic antidepressants) at the time of withdrawal may decrease headache frequency.
