Should patients with asthma be routinely screened for depression?
Should patients with asthma be routinely screened for depression? Evidence-Based Answer: The practice might be worth considering. Rates of depression are about 2 times higher among adults and adolescents with asthma than the general population. Depression is associated with activity limitation in adults with moderate to severe persistent asthma. It is unknown if treatment of depression without other intervention improves asthma control (SOR: C, crosssectional and meta-analysis of case-controlled studies).
