Do epidural corticosteroid injections provide any benefit in patients with lumbar radiculopathy? Evidence-Based Answer: Minimally. Epidural steroid injections do result in a small benefit of questionable clinical significance for short-term (<6 months) pain relief, but studies have had inconsistent effects on disability. The injections have no long-term (greater-than or equal to 12 months) benefit for pain relief, disability, or subsequent surgery (SOR: A, meta-analyses of RCTs).
