Is capsaicin effective for the treatment of neuropathic pain?
Is capsaicin effective for the treatment of neuropathic pain? Evidence-Based Answer: Capsaicin 0.07% cream may be more effective than placebo in treating neuropathic pain in patients already taking oral pain medication (SOR: C, conflicting metaanalyses). High-dose capsaicin patches (8%) are more effective than low-dose capsaicin cream or patches for neuropathic pain, but are associated with more local adverse effects (SOR: B, single RCT).
