Does daily use of fish oil by pregnant women affect the newborn?
Does daily use of fish oil by pregnant women affect the newborn? Evidence-Based Answer:Supplementation with daily fish oil or other long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) during pregnancy reduces early preterm birth (<34 weeks) in high-risk pregnancies and slightly increases birth weight (SOR: A, meta-analysis of RCT). Infants born to mothers who are supplemented with fish oil have fewer illness symptoms including upper respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms (SOR: B, low-quality RCT) and may have less atopic disease (SOR: B, underpowered RCTs).
