How long do you need to treat bacteremia in a stable patient?
How long do you need to treat bacteremia in a stable patient? Case wrap up: Shorter duration antibiotic therapy (5-7 days) appears adequate for treatment of bacteremia in a hemodynamically stable patient. Procalcitonin levels may be used to help decide duration of therapy in patients with sepsis. For our patient, the inpatient team decided he was hemodynamically stable and clinically improving after 7 days of antibiotics and elected to discontinue antibiotics at that time. The patient was discharged home with no complications.
