How does caffeine affect aerobic endurance? Evidence-based answer: Consumption of caffeine (around 6 mg/kg) an hour before exercise produces small to moderate improvements in endurance, particularly in increasing time to voluntary exhaustion (TVE) and ratings of perceived exertion (SOR: A, meta-analyses of RCTs). Caffeine also produces small improvements in muscle strength and endurance (SOR: B, meta-analysis of 30 crossover studies and 4 RCTs).
