I like to go running. Along with all the presumed health benefits of regular exercise, another "benefit" of this pastime is the large collection of old running shoes I now own. After a few months, most running shoes lose tread from the heel and the linings start to rip out, so they no longer protect my feet from high impact conditions. However, they still do a fine job for walking, gardening, beachcombing, and the like, making it hard for me to ever throw a pair away.
