dc.description.abstract"This report deals with the effects of open junctions on the magnitude of pressure changes in storm drain systems flowing full. Rectangular boxes serving as inlets for surface flow alone and as combination inlets and pipe junctions were studied. Square and round manholes were also investigated. Several measures were evolved to reduce pressure losses for junction types otherwise characterized by especially large losses. The report covers the laboratory investigation and presents an analysis of the hydraulic characteristics of most of the structures investigated. Methods for converting the test results into design methods are discussed. A concluding section presents methods for the design of inlets and junctions in storm drain systems flowing full, .together with illustrative examples."--Synopsis.eng
