dc.description.abstract"The problem of estimating the flood-producing properties of natural drainage systems is receiving wide attention from hydrologists and designing engineers. Much of the recent progress in this field has been made possible through access to the large mass of rainfall and runoff data which has been accumulated by the United States Geological Survey, the United States Weather Bureau and other public and private agencies. It is for the purpose of assisting engineers and public officials in making proper use of the large accumulation of precipitation and runoff data pertaining to the State of Missouri that this bulletin has been prepared. Engineering problems relating to the flow of a natural stream are concerned either with the yield of water for domestic consumption, irrigation, and sewage dilution, or with the flood-producing capacity of the stream. The present study concerns only the latter."--Introductioneng
