Guide to the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection
Abstract
Under the direction of Doctor W. Francis English, the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection was established at the University of Missouri on January 1, 1943. This was' made possible by grants from the Humanities Division of the Rockefeller Foundation and the University of Missouri. From the beginning the primary objective of the project has been the collection of letters, diaries, business papers, memoirs, religious and educational records and other types of original manuscript material pertaining to the historical development of Missouri, the Mississippi Valley, and the West. ... The present bulletin, which is bulletin number six of the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection, is being issued as a University Bulletin of the library series. While it is in a sense a revision of the previous bulletin, it is hoped that the addition of an index and more complete descriptions of the various collections will make it of more value to researchers and other interested persons.--Foreword.
