The research being conducted is towards the goal of an increased understanding of the way the carcinogen Benzo(a)pyrene is retained in different parts of the body, specifically the lung. Towards this goal a PBPK model for particle retention in mice was constructed and formulas were written for the following organs/tissues: fat, muscle, kidney, stomach/gastrointestinal, liver, lumen, lung, heart, arterial blood, and venous blood. Data has been gathered from various research papers and a colleague in the EPA for input into the parameters of the equations. The present goal of the research is the construction of a FORTRAN program to model the equations and so that data can be input. This program is still in the development stage and probably will not be available for the conference. From this we can draw conclusions as to the retention of Benzo(a)pryene and what different body mechanisms are best at removing it. Hopefully this can then be used by others to devise a way to lessen the retention of benzo(a)pyrene in the body.eng
