Water and vapor control in Earth contact (EC) homes
Abstract
"An experienced, conscientious home builder will have this as his first maxim: 'Lead all the above ground rainwater away from the structure.' This includes water from downspouts, eaves, and direst rainfall. It is a matter of sculpturing the slope and just good plumbing. DON'T connect anything to the footing drains (except a cleanout, accessible). All the potential problems that can occur with the above ground water are observable and correctable. This is not true for subsurface water flow. Down there 'Murphy's Law' takes over."--First page.
