The European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner), is perhaps the most destructive corn pest in Missouri and the entire Corn Belt. Crop losses and control costs associated with European corn borer infestations can exceed $1 billion annually in the United States and Canada. This Eurasian species was first observed in the United States near Boston in 1917, and by the 1940s it had migrated into Missouri.eng
