While life in the 21st century may have increased in pace, we as a society have become less active. Many jobs are done sitting down. To get somewhere we drive door to door. In the meantime, daily calorie intake has been going up. Consequently, people in the United States are becoming increasingly obese: 34% of adults and 13% of children are seriously overweight. Being overweight affects everything from blood pressure and heart disease to diabetes and a host of other medical problems that cause premature death.
