Retapamulin (Altabax(R)) is a new topical antibiotic ointment for the treatment of impetigo. Retapamulin is dosed twice daily, compared with 3 times a day for mupirocin and 2 to 4 times a day for oral antibiotics. Although retapamulin is dosed less frequently, this medication should not be considered the first-line topical agent due to its high cost and lack of superiority data.
