Approximately half of patients report blood glucose readings with an error rate of more than plus/minus 10% of the laboratory value. (SOR B, based on cross-sectional studies.) The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends healthcare providers evaluate a patient's blood glucose monitoring technique during initiation of self-monitoring, and then subsequently at regular intervals.
