Abstract: An aching pain over the inner aspect of the large bone of the lower legs is commonly known as “shin splints.” The pain is a result of irritation of the outer surface of the large tibia bone. Shin splints are often related to new or increased exercise. Runners, tennis and basketball players, aerobic dancers, walkers, and military trainees are especially prone to this injury, but it can occur in anyone starting or increasing some form of exercise.
