In women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), clomiphene citrate is more effective than metformin for improving fertility. Combined oral contraceptives are more effective than metformin for improving menstrual cycle regularity. Combined oral contraceptives and metformin have similar efficacy for treating acne and hirsutism. (SOR B, based on small clinical trials.)
