Is biofeedback an effective treatment for essential hypertension?

Biofeedback lowers blood pressure in adults with mild hypertension, and may be most effective when combined with other relaxation techniques. (SOR B, based on a systematic review and randomized controlled trial). Most studies have included patients also receiving antihypertensive medications, but limited evidence indicates that the response to biofeedback is similar in unmedicated groups.
