Abstract: Metformin reduces all-cause mortality when used to treat patients with type 2 diabetes who are overweight. (SOR A, based on a meta-analysis and large randomized controlled trials [RCTs].) The effect of thiazolidinediones (TZDs) on mortality is less clear (meta-analyses have heterogeneous outcomes), and further studies are warranted.
