How effective is antibiotic therapy for preventing complications of streptococcal pharyngitis?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
Antibiotic treatment for group A streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis reduces suppurative and nonsuppurative complications. However, in developed countries, the number needed to treat is extremely high. Hence, treatment decisions should also take into account other issues such as patient population, symptom duration, likelihood of spread, and potential harms from antibiotic use.
