What is the best way to prevent meconium aspiration syndrome?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
The incidence of meconium aspiration syndrome may be reduced by induction at 41 weeks (SOR A, based on a meta-analysis); amnioinfusion in the setting of thick meconium with oligohydramnios (SOR B, based on a single randomized controlled trial [RCT]); and endotracheal suctioning for nonvigorous meconium-stained infants (SOR C, based on nonrandomized studies). The rate of meconium aspiration syndrome is not altered by endotracheal suctioning in vigorous meconium-stained infants or by amnioinfusion for meconium without stratification for fluid volume. (SOR A, based meta-analyses.)
